Brief
Frenchie is a bold reinterpretation of French dining for Melbourne — a concept that dials Paris up and prices it down. Inspired by the after-dark pulse of Pigalle and the raw glamour of 1960s French New Wave cinema, the brand captures the tension between romance and rebellion. Created by hospitality entrepreneurs Julian Diprose and Lucas Boucly, Frenchie reimagines the traditional bistro as a high-energy, fixed-price dining destination where every dish is $14. It’s indulgence without intimidation, elegance without stiffness — a modern French speakeasy where cocktails flow, music hums, and the night rarely ends when it should.
Approach
BrandWorks positioned Frenchie as a deliberate rebellion against traditional French dining. Drawing from Pigalle’s after-dark pulse and the raw glamour of French New Wave cinema, the brand removes the ceremony while preserving the indulgence. It’s French elegance with its collar unbuttoned — confident, flirtatious, and unapologetically bold.
Frenchie sits at the intersection of grit and glamour. Foie gras without the formality. Steak frites without the white tablecloth. Champagne without the hush. The $14 plate model reinforces this democratic luxury — flavour over hierarchy, energy over etiquette.
Beyond the visual identity, we crafted a layered experiential world. Interactive table bells, photobooth moments, a French bulldog mascot, playful restroom quotes, digital menus, and a DJ corner seamlessly shift the space from dinner to late-night destination. From uniforms to branded porcelain plates, every detail was intentionally curated to deliver a cohesive, high-impact brand experience.
Outcome
The name “Frenchie” captures the spirit perfectly: playful, affectionate, and easy to call across a bar. It feels intimate yet charged with attitude, much like the venue itself. Short, punchy, and memorable, the name reinforces the concept of classic French flavour stripped of ceremony and served with confidence.
Built for scale, the brand system features an adaptable logo suite, mascot variations and a bold visual language that supports multi-site growth. More than a restaurant, Frenchie is a high-impact cultural night-out destination.
It delivers Parisian attitude at an accessible price point — blurring elegance with edge and capturing the spirit of Midnight Pigalle in a way that feels immediate and unforgettable.
