Pearl, Chablis & Oysters - MELBOURNE CBD

STRATEGY, BRANDING, INTERIORS, DIGITAL

Old world meets new.

Introducing Pearl, a brand new Chablis and Oyster Bar concept now open.

Located opposite to Pinchy’s Champagne & Lobster Bar, Pearl will offer Melbourne an exclusive taste of French wine from the Chablis (AOC) region of Burgundy, specialty appellation oysters and the highest quality selections of raw produce sourced within Australia. Created by a team dedicated to wine and local produce of the highest order, Pearl will elevate Melbourne’s bar and dining culture in an approachable way.

BrandWorks was engaged by the team behind Pinchy’s to reimagine what fine Chablis and Oysters could be. Rather than take the path of a luxury wine and oyster bar, the brand and interior team were intent on making these fine creations accessible and available to all. Breaking down the stigma of French wines and classic oysters, Pearl’s brand experience is one of an authentic journey and discovery to feel free to ask and enjoy the beauty of the two.

The brand mark tells of a modern approach to be expected. Refined and premium, it reflects the passion behind the menu and the dedication to the craft. The story of Chablis and oysters are connected by interlocking circles, forming a branding system that highlights the symbiotic relationship of the two for over a thousand years.

Transcendence and Allurement

The interior design for Pearl focuses on the experience of transcendence and allurement. Adopting a speakeasy style design, as you approach the venue you notice that the windows have been shrouded in perforated panels, so light spills out, hinting a mere suggestion of wine and activity inside. Patrons enter via a large engraved timber door housing a custom oyster inspired travertine handle.

The palette was influenced by lazy european afternoons, sun reflecting off of azul coloured waters and limed terraces. Finishes throughout are buffed and understated with travertine pavers, sea battered timbers, distressed linen and aged brass. A light feature inspired by sun playing on the ocean commands the ceiling. Constructed from powder coated perforated metal it spills dappled light across the space. The offerings themselves also play an integral part of the visual layering of the space. A large wine display sits proudly in the centre of the shrouded windows, showcasing the most prestigious of Chablis on offer. At the centre of the room is the serving bar, where diners sit in front of a glass ice well housing oysters and oceanic delights. Toward the end of the space is an arched fluted glass doorway through to the more vivacious sister venue ‘Pinchy’s, showcasing the intriguing backlit phrase ‘Old World Meet New World’.

All of the seating has been customised with distressed velvet upholstery and supplied by local designers and manufacturers Grazia and Co.
